Dr. Sinem Helvacıoğlu Akyüz is a post-doctoral scientist working in the In Vitro Toxicology and Dermato-Cosmetology Department at VUB. In 2015 she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Yeditepe University in Turkey. In 2020 she graduated from the Yildiz Technical University in Turkey and obtained her master’s degree in molecular biology and Genetics. In 2022 she got her PhD in Pharmaceutical Toxicology at the Yeditepe University in Turkey. In 2024 she joined the: In Vitro Toxicology and Dermato-Cosmetology Department at VUB as an imπACT postdoc. Her research focuses on the potential of simulated microgravity to alter drug transporters and to induce cholestasis using in vitro systems by using liver cell lines. This research is critical for taking correct measures to counteract pathogenesis in long-term space missions. Which is becoming increasingly important given the rise of touristic space travel.
