Carlos Leónidas Leiva
Leonidas participated in the 26th United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development on 27 – 31 March 2023 at Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.
He was invited as a guest speaker and gave a talk about capacity-building in STI in Panama and Zambia. This talk was part of the workshop titled ‘Training workshop for LAC on policy instruments in STI for the SDGs’, organized by the United Nations Interagency Task Team Workstream 6.
Saimum Parvez
In February this year, Saimum contributed to the annual review series of the East Asia Forum, one of the leading think tanks on international politics, and analysed the development in Bangladesh politics in 2023. The title of his contribution was ‘Bangladesh wedged between political upheaval and economic crises in 2023’.
Saimum was also keynote speaker at the webinar Freedom of Expression in Bangladesh, organized by Bangladesh Studies Forum. Finally, he was interviewed by the Al-Jazeera on 30 March 2023, and his contribution was part of the article Bangladesh in hot seat over Adani’s power deal
Miloš Mihajlović
Milos has also been very busy between his ongoing secondment at ILSI EUROPE BRUSSELS and his dissemination activities.
He has recorded a new protocol video entitled ‘’Set-up of 3D spheroid models for studying NASH and liver cancer’’.
This video protocol on setting up 3D liver models to study liver disease was published on EASL Campus (open-access eLearning hub for hepatology and liver-related diseases). It has been co-authored with Mathieu Vinken and several PhD and postdocs from his research group at VUB.
The video has also been endorsed by European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). It is open-access, but registration is required. Target audience of the video are: basic and translational researchers, clinical researchers, laboratory technicians, students.

FLAMES is an inter-university training network rooted in the 5 Flemish universities: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Ghent University, Hasselt University, University of Antwerp, and KU Leuven.
Stefan Chichevaliev
Stefan has also been busy with research and teaching.
His chapter “How Social Entrepreneurship is Pursuing the Path of Development? Regional Perspectives in the Western Balkans” will be published soon. This chapter was developed together with colleagues Stojan Debarliev and Aleksandra Janeska-Iliev and is part of the edited book Entrepreneurship Development in the Balkans. Stefan has also returned to University American College Skopje to give a lecture on social entrepreneurship to new and upcoming generations. His talk offered both theoretical and practical perspectives
