Can you describe your IMPACT story in three words. Why those words?
Safe-space
From the very first day, the Impact Programme felt like a safe space, where I could express my ideas freely and obtain constructive feedback from other Impact fellows, the Impact Team and the coaches/speakers.
Teamwork
During the coaching sessions, we (Impact Fellows) were required to work together as small groups. Despite coming from different disciplines, different cultures and different countries, it was always quite amazing when ours ideas converged.
Impact
The main take-home message from the Impact programme is that “Impact is not only about publications and patents”. Impact can also be generated through commercialisation and policy influence. Knowledge should be translated into tangible environmental, societal and economic benefits.
What has been the most surprising or transformative moment during your fellowship?
The most surprising moment for me was when my Science Figured Out video was posted on YouTube. From the very start of the Science Figured Out workshop, I was watching the past videos and thought I would never be able to come up with something good enough. However, the rigorous training sessions really helped me build my confidence. I am really happy with the final result.
How do you see your IMPACT experience influencing your next steps?
During the Impact programme I learnt that I can maximise my impact through commercialisation. Now, I am less afraid to make the jump to industry or start collaborating more closely with industrial partners.
